The idea of borderlines and boundaries can be interpreted in many different ways. It can be a border between two countries, the border between life and death, between two different mindsets, or even just the door between your bedroom and the rest of the house. We experience both physical borders as well as social, cultural, intellectual, and spiritual ones. Often these encounters with borders are important experiences for us, and they shape us in significant ways. We have looked at a number of different ways that individuals interpret this idea of borderlines in preparation for our own exploration of this idea.
