UNIT 1- DISCUSSION POST

1. After watching Rip! A Remix Manifesto, what are your thoughts on:

a. The 4 postulates of “A Remixer’s Manifesto”- What parts do you agree and/or disagree with and why?

b. Thoughts on copyrights and sampling? Who should own the copyrights? Who should be able to sample?

c. Are mashup artists making music? Do you think they are original? Are they the future of music? Why or why not?

d. Is anything original? Why or why not?

Please use specific examples from the film as well as your own experiences to back up your points.

2. The video, When the Music Dies, talks about how music has become more commercialized throughout time and the ramifications of this happening. What sentiments do you agree/disagree with after watching this documentary? Please explain with specific examples from the film as well as your own experiences to back up your ideas.

3. You were asked to listen to Radiohead, White Stripes, Katy Perry, and Skrillex. In your opinion, please explain which of these albums is showing the future of music and will influence the sound of what we are going to be hearing 20 years from now. What aspects of the albums you chose is the future? Do any of these albums build upon the past to make their sound relevant in the present and presumably in the future? Why do you think this is so?
