Review the article: Flynn_EBP_Sacred_Cows_2011.pdf

The Flynn article provides 7 examples of current practice that is not evidence based; essentially identifying 7 common “Sacred Cows”. Describe a sacred cow you have seen in your clinical practice. Use the following questions to stimulate thinking; do not answer all questions. 

Questions: What is the history of your sacred cow? Why is this practice still in use? Did you talk with any other staff about this practice? What was their response to your question? Does this practice impact patient safety? What do you think it would take to change this practice? Does administration support the practice? What about your multidisciplinary colleagues? Could this be a topic of interest for your EBP project? What do you think about the availability of evidence to support of not support this practice? Post at least one comment to a classmate’s posting.
